BELLE CARVER STRUCK

“My work embodies once-living items into new imagined networks. Drawing from wild materials, my installations and drawings capture multiple possible futures of humans in reckoning with our natural environment. Utilizing foraged bones, feathers, skin, hair, and other dead ingredients to construct worlds, recipes, and drawings, the work acts as re-connective tissue, inviting diverse configurations, contexts, and revisions to what comes next. Through this embodiment and resurrection, I investigate collective traumas and evoke repair through acts of alchemy and new growth. My research investigates how holostic communities of people, trees, birds, fungi, bacteria, and other life forms consume, are broken and re-formed and what they might teach us about living in balance with the wilderness.”

Belle’s cause is the Community Giving Tree.
